Liam’s words echoed through the living room long after he finished speaking.

Liam’s parents held him close as Laura thanked him for his courage.

“We’re very proud of you,” she said.

Liam looked relieved.

“I wasn’t trying to get anyone in trouble.”

“I know.”

“I just wanted Eli to be okay.”

“So do we.”

Telephone logs.

Every page pointed in the same direction.

Not toward a single dramatic piece of evidence.
