My Family Tried to Take the Master Bedroom in the Beach House I Bought—But Grandma Had Left Me One Secret That Changed Everything

Nothing important.

Nothing worth discussing.

Nothing you need to worry about.

Nothing that concerns you.

Nothing that belongs to you.

I looked at Renee.

“Do you remember the summer Grandma died?”

Her expression tightened.

“What does Grandma have to do with this?”

“Everything.”

Mom stepped forward.

“Dana, this isn’t the time.”

I looked toward the clock.

9:57.

“It actually is.”

The woman beside me quietly opened her leather notebook.

Renee noticed her.

“Who is she?”

I answered without looking away from Mom.

“Someone who was invited.”

“For what?”

“You’ll find out.”

Renee crossed her arms.

“This is ridiculous. We drove four hours. The movers are here. We were told we could stay here.”

“I never told you that.”

“Mom did.”

I looked at my mother.

She didn’t deny it.

Instead, she said, “I thought you understood.”

“I understood exactly what you meant.”

“Then why are you doing this?”

I glanced around the house.
