He Wanted the House, the Cars, and Everything—So I Gave Him It All… Until His Lawyer Whispered, “You Need to Read the Addendum.”

His fingers began trembling.

“What did you do?”

I didn’t answer.

The judge was still seated at the bench, reviewing the same pages with a calm expression. Jessica sat beside me, perfectly composed.

For the first time since the divorce proceedings had begun, she looked almost amused.

David turned another page.

His breathing changed.

“This can’t be right.”

Mark leaned closer.

“It was signed by both parties. Your signature is right there.”

David looked at me.

“You knew.”

I finally met his eyes.

“Yes.”

His face turned pale.

“What did you know?”

I folded my hands in my lap.

“I knew exactly what you were asking for.”

“That doesn’t answer my question.”

“It does.”

He stood abruptly.

His chair scraped against the courtroom floor.

“I want to speak to the judge.”

“You may sit down, Mr. Mercer,” the judge said firmly.

David looked toward the bench.

“Your Honor, I didn’t agree to this.”
