My husband invited another woman to move into our home… and expected ME to raise her baby.”

What bothered me most wasn’t the request.

It was his tone.

He spoke as though my role in the marriage had already been decided.

“Remember to clean the house really well,” Daniel said, scrolling through his messages. “My friend Vanessa just had a baby. She’ll be staying here for six months so you can help take care of her.”

I stared at him from across the kitchen island.

“You volunteered me to care for another woman and her newborn?”

Daniel finally looked up.

He seemed annoyed rather than embarrassed.

“She needs support.”

“She has family.”

“They’re busy.”

“So are we.”

He sighed.

“You’re home more than I am.”

That sentence told me everything.

For years, I had slowly become invisible inside my own marriage.

I had helped build the home Daniel loved showing off to his friends. I had managed bills, appointments, repairs, groceries, and every tiny emergency that somehow became my responsibility.
